Vice President Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Desianto Budi said the reduction of corn for animal feed raw materials had been carried out since the beginning of the year. This step is done as the price of corn rises from Rp 3,500 / kilogram (kg) to Rp 6,000 / kg
"Since the beginning of the year, we have reduced the use of corn in animal feed. Since the beginning of the year, the price has risen now at Rp 6,000," Desianto explained at the Outlook Agrobusiness program at the Ritz Carlton, Jakarta, Thursday.
He explained that the reduction in corn was 35-40%. Previously, corn was used as 50% in animal feed.
"Usage is limited to maybe 35% to 40%. Usually it's 50% we use," he said.
As a substitute for corn, Charoen Pokphand uses other carbohydrate raw materials such as cassava and tubers.
"Yes, cassava, tubers, carbohydrates are the source of energy," he explained.
Meanwhile, he claimed to be reusing the composition of corn as much as 50% if the supply and prices had returned to normal.
"Depends on supply, if available, he will be withdrawn by an automatic computer. But if we set high prices, it will be 35% to 40%," he closed.
